Had a pretty scary ass moment at my uncles office the other day. Their Windows SBS server encountered an unexpected reboot.
Chkdsk ran a scan on the OS and corrupted the Metabase.xml file. Without a working metabase.xml file iisadmin cannot start. This means no email in or out…YIKES!!!!
Luckily for me I restored the metabase.xml from the previous nights backup. You can also access the latest Metabase.xml backup inthe history folder located in c:\Windows\System32\Inetsrv\History. Just rename your current Metabase.xml to Metabase.xml.old. Copy the lastest Metabase file in the history folder and past it in the Inetsrv folder. Make sure it’s named Metabase.xml (remove any other characters).
Just do yourself a favor and backup all files in c:\windows\system32\inetsrv everyday.
