Solution:  A cyclical redundancy check is almost always caused by a bad sector on either your source or destination hard drive.  This is a sign that you should replace your hard drive soon.  Anyway, here’s how to fix the bad sector on:

Windows XP:

  1. Click Start
  2. Click Run
  3. Type CMD
  4. Press Enter
  5. In the black command window type chkdsk c: /r
  6. Press Enter
  7. Chkdsk will inform you that it will check the disk at the next reboot.  Type Y to this.
  8. Reboot
  9. Chkdsk should start on step 1 of 5.  This process can take hours.  Let it finish.

Windows Vista or 7

  1. Click Start (little globe at the bottom left)
  2. Click All Programs
  3. Click Accessories
  4. Right Click Command Prompt
  5. Click “Run As Administrator”
  6. Type chkdsk c: /r
  7. Hit Enter
  8. Type Y
  9. Reboot.
